Founded by Jason Bencivenga with co-founder Quinn Bencivenga, Decco by Party Up Productions has grown from a DJ and entertainment company into a full-service resource for event rentals, design, custom fabrication, and production. Its team works across social celebrations, corporate events, festivals, and concerts, overseeing every element from furniture and lighting to staging, sound, and audiovisual production.

For Hamptons Social’s summer cover party at A Room At the Beach in Bridgehampton, Decco furnished the lounge settings that shaped the flow of the evening and gave guests inviting places to gather. Hamptons Social spoke with Jason Bencivenga about the company’s evolution, his approach to event design, and what makes an event feel memorable without becoming overdone.

Tell us about Decco by Party Up Productions and how the company began.

JASON BENCIVENGA: We originally began as a DJ and entertainment company back in 1998. Around 2010, we recognized how much lighting could fundamentally transform a room, prompting our shift into event lighting, which eventually led us into luxury furniture rentals until we reached custom fabrication and full-scale design. What started as a sound and music operation has expanded into the full-service event production company you see today.

How did your own background lead you into event design and production?

BENCIVENGA: I had studied fine arts and design in college and I have been doing events my whole life. I worked in the field as a DJ/MC when I first started this company, so I have seen first-hand how guests interact with each other and the room around them. As such, over the years, we surrounded ourselves with an exceptionally talented collective of artisans, technicians, and designers from across the industry. These connections are ultimately what laid the groundwork for Decco.

Decco provided the furniture and lounge settings for the Hamptons Social cover party. How did you approach the design for that event?

BENCIVENGA: When walking into a venue, it is important to consider the space and embrace its natural aesthetic. A Room At the Beach is a stunning location where there is not much that needs to be done to captivate its guests. It is beautiful in and of itself. The approach for the setup here is about subtlety – to complement the property’s innate charm rather than competing with it.

What role does furniture play in setting the mood and encouraging guests to gather and connect?

BENCIVENGA: Furniture is so much more than just a place to sit. It is a great way to add to and elevate a space. But I think the most important part of it is that it brings people together in a more comfortable and familiar way. As such, furniture has a way of creating a relaxed atmosphere which makes people feel more at home and, which naturally drives organic connection.

Many people know Decco for furniture rentals, but your services extend far beyond rentals. What does the company offer?

BENCIVENGA: While rentals are our main title, we operate far beyond the scope of a standard rental house. We take our time with our clients and help them get to the right place. You’re not just renting a piece of furniture, but you’re also hiring us as creative collaborators and strategic partners with our years of experience, knowledge, staff, and dedication. We like to consider ourselves as not just an independent business but also a part of your team and we are invested in bringing your vision to reality, however that may be.

What is the difference between hiring Decco for rentals and hiring your team for full event production?

BENCIVENGA: As events increase in their size and complexity, clients often need more of an overarching production partner and we are happy to take on that larger role. We work with many different types of people with different types of skillsets who are able to support as needed. Whether it be at just a rental capacity or for more project management, we are there for you.

What types of installations or branded pieces do clients request most often?

BENCIVENGA: We do as many social jobs as we do corporate ones, from small pieces to over-the-top events. The beauty of what we do is that there really is no normal. We prioritize the clients vision above all else. We’re open to new ideas and we try not to overpower as a design team. The client takes the lead and we get them to where they want to be.

How do lighting, staging, sound, and audiovisual elements change the guest experience?

BENCIVENGA: When considering decor rentals, everything should be thought of as in conjunction with one another; no single piece of an event is more important than the other. Its the reason why we have built such a large network of different people as we have. All elements help to create the overall mood and experience from start to finish.

What are the different types of events that Decco produces?

BENCIVENGA: Everything from small jobs to big elaborate events – We have a network that is second to none. We primarily focus on social events, such as weddings, birthdays, cocktail parties, dinners, corporate events, and some of the bigger festivals or concerts. A major area that we specialize in is our seating with curated lounge experiences.

What are clients requesting most for Hamptons events right now? Are there any trends you can highlight?

BENCIVENGA: The benchmark continues to be raised every single season. This year so far has shown a lot of focus with regard to lighting; lamps, lanterns, chandeliers, and even mixed in with fabric. And the expectation continues to be pushed. With social media, all these events are becoming much more accessible, which circulates these ideas.

What design elements create the greatest impact without making an event feel overdone?

BENCIVENGA: When approaching an event, more isn’t always better. The most unforgettable events are actually where people use some restraint. It’s not about how much you spend, but rather achieving the right balance of indulgence. This strategy allows us to operate on a wide spectrum of events to create timeless experiences.

What are the most common mistakes people make when selecting rentals or planning an event layout?

BENCIVENGA: Not coordinating vendors is the biggest mistake we have seen with some clients – that’s where an event planner would come in. Hiring the wrong vendor can inhibit your event, which is why it is important to bring people in with a network that you can trust. That’s why we hold ourselves to high standards of reliability and communication; planners and hosts need partners they can trust implicitly. Planning an event is generally a lot to do all by yourself, which is why making an event happen is such a team effort and it is important to bring in a management team or a planner.

What is next for Decco by Party Up Productions?

BENCIVENGA: Each year, we continue to grow and perfect our craft. We strive and challenge ourselves to elevate our operational standards, stay ahead of design trends, and source unique inventory that sets our company apart.

What are a few events that you have thrown that stand out as highlights?

BENCIVENGA: Some of the most challenging events are also the events that we are most proud off. Without name dropping – there have been some surreal moments with celebrities. Ultimately, we do what we do because being a part of people’s lives at the most significant moments. Navigating the high pressure behind the scenes to deliver a flawless experience creates an incredible sense of professional pride and fulfillment.

What makes the Hamptons a sensational location to throw an event?

BENCIVENGA: It’s the people, the scenery, the food, the quality, the expectation, the anticipation – all of those things that set the stage for the Hamptons. When you step into a Hamptons event, there’s so many possibilities – you never know who you’ll end up sitting next to, connecting with, or sharing a drink with by the end of the evening.
