Michelin-star chef Matt Lambert (former chef and co-owner of NYC’s The Musket Room) teamed up with the amazing wine and hospitality veteran Vanessa Price and created Sweet Az Sandos. The casual and gourmet cafe in Montauk offers a collection of sensational “sandos’” (the slang term in New Zealand for sandwiches). Located on Fort Pond, the outdoor tables offer some of the best restaurant views in the Hamptons, but they also make it easy to swing by for hassle-free pickup.

We checked out the new gourmet pop-up this weekend and tried some of its mouthwatering “Sandos,” all served on delicious brioche buns. We loved the Roast Beef (imperial Wagyu roast beef with horseradish cream), the Pork Shoulder (shaved Berkshire pork with pickled peppers, provolone, and basil) and the Fried Fish (fried pollock with remoulade and bib lettuce). For appetizers, we couldn’t get enough of the lightly seared Bigeye Tuna with soy mirin dressing, Tomato Salad with ricotta cheese and fresh herbs, and the Squash Salad with mint vinegar, charred eggplant purée, and tomato preserve.

The menu also offers “Sweet AZ Family Meals,” like the Beach Friendly Sandwich Platter that serves 10 people and can be devoured utensil free while you lounge backdropped by your favorite dunes. All items on the menu are affordably priced — except for the eye-catching and seductive “Lavish Larry,” a $120 masterpiece made with two ounces of Gold Osetra Caviar with sour cream and chives on a plain potato bun, topped with gold leaf.
