With boutiques in East Hampton and Southampton, Zimmermann perfectly captures the essence of the Hamptons lifestyle with its effortlessly chic, ocean-inspired designs. Zimmermann’s Spring 2025 collection, Illumination, draws inspiration from the 70s surf film Morning of the Earth, transforming its sun-soaked imagery and harmonious connection with nature into a modern expression of style.

“For Spring, we were inspired by Albe Falzon’s beautiful 70s surf film, Morning of the Earth. The film is a celebration of free-spirited surfers whose passion brought them closer to nature. It’s so visually stunning – the way it captures the golden morning light and the colour of nature is just so inspiring. We leant into the aesthetics of the film more than surf itself – the irresistible way the film captures dappled light, the flowing movement of the sea, and that feeling of harmony between surfer and nature,” says Nicky Zimmermann, Creative Director.

Zimmermann’s connection to the film runs deeper than inspiration, rooted in her own childhood by the beach. “As a kid growing up near the beach in Southern Sydney, I used to go down to the local town hall where they would play surf films like this – I’m talking in the late 70s and early 80s I guess – and everyone would sit on the floor and watch them projected on a screen. I always loved those films, the freedom of the lifestyle and the beautiful way that the sand and the surf interacted with the golden sunlight.”

This nostalgia and reverence for the ocean are woven into Illumination, a collection alive with fluidity and elegance. Soft flutters of fabric and undulating silhouettes mimic the soothing lull of the ocean, while organic details – hand-braided inserts, wooden beads, and untreated cotton lace – highlight a connection to the natural world.

“When Nicky let me know that the film was a key inspiration behind her Spring collection, I was really thrilled to hear that the film could inspire a different creative genre in this way,” reflects Morning of the Earth director Albe Falzon OAM. “I know Nicky and her team really connected with the imagery and the mood of the film. The early morning light and soft pre-dawn colours of the sunrise offer the most beautiful tapestry to paint upon. The rainbow in every drop of spray from the breaking of each wave is an everlasting jewel of light – it’s every morning of the Earth. The Zimmermann collection captures those moments – soft and translucent colours and flowing lines, like waves in the ocean.”

The collection balances poetic contrasts: drill utility pieces juxtapose liquid agate prints and sunset hues; island-inspired artworks and scuba-panelled bodysuits channel an off-duty surfer aesthetic. Accessories embrace a nostalgic seaside sentiment with dolphin motifs, turquoise gems, braided sandals, and broad-brim hats, while 70s-inspired touches like beaded scarves and sporty curved-lens sunglasses round out the story.

Bags combine soft nappa leather, cotton canvas, and surfboard-inspired hardware. Surfaced nostalgia is woven into the collection through shell- and rock-inspired accents, raffia, and fringing, offering a tactile reminder of mornings spent waking by the sea.

Zimmermann has two boutiques in the Hamptons: one at 25 Main Street in Southampton and the other at 27 Newtown Lane in East Hampton.
